The Dog Days of Summer are “Ruff”
Dog days of Summer. The phrase comes from the Greek, “Days of the dog Star” or the hottest days of the year which later became, The Dog Days of Summer”. When we are experiencing the heat, humidity, and sense of nothing else happening, we can become dog tired and frustrated. It’s ruff. Let’s take a moment, take a swim, take a breath and find our way out of the dog days of summer, on this episode of Casting Actors Cast!
The heat can take away our focus, energy and interest in everyday things. If you are working in a Summer production on stage, chances are it is winding down. Making way for the upcoming new season. If you’ve been in a class, perhaps the session is coming to a close. This can really drain you. It can create a sad version of who you want to be. Here are some thoughts on how to make the best of it.
· Take stock of your situation and find gratitude
· Indulge in a fantasy or projection of the next success you want to have
· Clean your house physically
· Do something just for fun-Swim, hike, sail, walk in the woods (it’s cooler)
· Binge a TV show and research the writer, Director and Casting Director
· Read a screenplay
· Freshen up your website
· Write a fan letter
The process of taking a new action is quite challenging. After all, it’s really hard to start something new or take on an additional task. But it is a good idea to take the first step. It is not the goal to finish, just start. Here’s what will happen when you decide to move forward.
1. The misdirection will remove self-doubt and self-pity
2. You will shift your focus to new experiences that promote well-being
3. Your outlook will move into a place of productivity
The dog days of Summer are upon us. Finding the cool breeze of positivity and forward movement offers relief and a useful way of coping with creativity
