Actor Lifestyle Classes- What gives?
It makes perfect sense. Actors only want to take classes that teach, “How to be successful” It's no wonder that there are classes out there that actors don't seem to be interested in taking. One such class. Is called, the business of acting and it usually struggles with enrollment. I wonder why that is? There are many such classes that seem to be available to actors but typically struggle with enrollment. There's a reason for this, I think. Let's find out why on this episode of Casting Actors Cast.
Lifestyle classes are about the actor and not about acting. This pre-supposes that you already know the business, so it is more important to work on the work and not the business. Other classes that are available but are challenged with enrollment are, Self-Tape, actor tax preparation, union understanding…the list goes on and on. Here are excuses for not taking those classes that are for your actor lifestyle and not your acting:
· Self-tape classes aren't needed because yours are fine (not true)
· Lifestyle class information is available on the internet
· Spending money to learn about saving money makes no sense
· All the information about actors is the same, “one size fits all”
· I want to be better at acting not being a smarter actor
· I am a creative person and find it hard to embrace business concepts
Here are reasons for thinking about taking those classes to help you, and not necessarily your acting:
· Self-tapes can always be better
· There are aspects of the business that are not readily available online
· It takes money to make money. Invest in yourself
· Taylor your needs to the available classes (what would help the most)
· Equal time for being an actor and acting just makes sense
· It is because you are creative that learning new information about the business is expanding your success model.
Consider all the available options so that the balance between you talent and your career are equally valuable to moving forward on your journey. It is the balance that makes a career
