Casting Secrets: What they Don’t Tell You
The 5 casting secrets that you’re not supposed to know.
1) Casting is not a science or art….it’s a service! Producers and
directors hire casting directors to filter out the actors based on the project's vision and then make their casting decisions with their gut instinct and factors such as being qualified for the part, availability, reputation. 2) Everyone is afraid.
3) It's about Risk VS Reward. Taking a chance is harder than a sure thing for casting directors but sure things are usually not as interesting.
4) There are factors as an actor you cannot control:
a. Your physical presence (body type). Pretty, handsome
odd, unique, ethnicity, sense of humor, quirky, etc.
b. Height/Hair/Eyes
c. Other actors in the other roles
5) You should know that there is a casting percentage equation.
a. 30% Talent
b. 30% Physical
c. 20% Perception we have about you
d. 10% Instinct about you in the role
