What’s the difference?
Type:
Category created by others to help you become identifiable
Type origin: studio system
Potential damage...limits your options (new material?) Outcome. You may not fit into any type (where do you belong?)
Brand:
What others think of you (3 adjectives)
What works for your personality?
Marketing gold (pictures, resume, all materials)
Outcome: Puts you in control of your choices (not others)
You uniqueness books you the job...not your sameness
When you think about your brand, you are putting yourself in a unique position to control the narrative of your acting career. Roles you play, how you are represented, how to plan the next stages are all better suited if you think in terms of brand.
Remember, type is a category, brand is a specific, unique, manageable impressions about you as an artist.
One gives the power to others, the other puts you in control of how others see you and your talent.
